New from SC, been a lurker for a long time. Trying to find my first serious jon, and am on the Strugle Bus! I am 60, with a wife, 5 kids and a granddaughter and grandson. Been considering a boat for years but never pull the trigger over guilt mostly. Anyhow, thanks for having me.

Welcome to tinboats.net.
Let us know what you want to know to get that first fishing boat.
I just wish I could find something I can mentally afford. I could buy anything I wanted (within reason!) but I cant get past the selfishness of a boat. I have been looking at a 16' G3 with a 25 hp for right around $10k, but I would be happy with a used similar model for less. Everything I look at on FBMP is either ancient, or a 1442-ish. I think I want a 16-ish just to future proof myself. Normally, it would be myself, my wife, and our granddaughter. I would do solo fishing as well. I love small creeks and the occasional large body of water. Might even sneak down to Charleston for some very inshore fishing in the fall.

Anyhow, I have looked myself into a loop!

When I need to justify a spend of larger amounts of dollars, I tell myself that after I use it and no longer want it I'll just sell it and gain some of the capital back. Just purchase something that will easily sell when required. Even if it's used, same thinking.

Should have made this decision years earlier when prices were much lower. I justify my boat expense because we love to eat fish. With yellow perch at over 20 per pound, I can say that I make money by fishing for them. I have had a second job for most of my life to buy my toys with, for almost 20 years, I worked three jobs, to put braces on my kids teeth and pay for my toys. Find a nice aluminum hulled boat and you won't loose any money. The boat I bought three years ago (used, 1992) is worth far more today than what I paid three years ago. Still in near like new condition to this day.
