I remember that post now. At that time, I did wind up getting a 50ah LiFePo battery and it didn't last me more than 2 hours. It was pretty windy that day, but I was on a very small lake (115 acres) and I didn't get to fish more than half of it. That said, I did have my old electric motor that came with the boat and it was pretty old and beat up, so it may have drawn more than it should have. Late last year I bought a new MK Traxxis 55 trolling motor, but I have yet to try it out. Im expecting I will get much more run time out of this motor as it is brand new.

Another question for the brain trust...

Will a NOCO Genius 10a charger work for the 140ah battery without damaging it? I realize it will take longer to charge it v a 20a charger. If I need to buy a new charger just for this battery, that will be a deal breaker.

Edit: I just realized I have a 15a LiFePo charger that I purchased with my 50ah battery. Would that one work?

The 10a charger on a 140ah battery?

I have a 10A NOCO on my 100ah TimeUsb. While I have seen their 20A charger recommendations, doubt that it causes issues to charge slower. An email to TimeUSB may calm your fears.

The NOCO I had, supported having a mode for Li/LiFePO4, so stayed with it. Just like the LA, they will be fully charged overnight.

JMHO: The TimeUSB chargers do not look like something that was marine ready. They had what looked like an opening for a cooling fan. It is not something that I would dedicatly mount in the boat. Most marine chargers are fully encapsolated, these days. As a plug-in charger, that is removed and stored inside, probably OK.

Yep, the NOCO I have will do LiFePo also. I will email Timeusb and report back. (y)

By all means check any charger you wish to use to be sure it will charge a LifePO4 battery !! Not all of them will....my NOCO 3 bank charger is not compatible with any type of lithium battery !! When the wrong charger is hooked up.....the batteries can burn white hot in seconds. I speak from experience....not my own mistake but others not paying attention. Your charger will identify what batteries it can charge.

Yes Sir! Good to go on that front.

Myself, just based it on my use and the LA battery ratings. Even our longest day on the water, the LA batteries were still above the critical 50% charged level, when we got home. Ours is mainly using anchor lock in light to heavy current, and some location adjustment, and slow casting tracks. I imagine trolling is what most of your aH are used on. With LiFePO4's, you can go well below the LA 50% without hurting the battery. So if you were good with a 100aH LA, in general, a 100aH LiFePO4 will be more than enough. I'd say that a LiFePO4 that is 75% of your LA ah rating, would be suffcient. Some say even 50%, but that was too near the margins for me.

Now, if you have the room, going larger will never bite you. ;)
Had "two" LA gp 31 deep cycle batteries that lasted a good 6 hours when newer. Only 3-4 hours this past summer. Wanted to get back to the 6 HR day with the new battery ( 55# thrust power drive) so I went with a single 140ah LifePO4 battery. Still might be close but defiantly better than a single 100 ah.
Time will tell !

The 10a charger on a 140ah battery?

I use a NOCO 5X2 charger; one side goes to the AGM crank battery, the other to my 100Ah LiFePO4. It puts out 5 Ah of charge to each side.

As long as as your charger is suitable for LiFePO4 batteries, it will work fine. The only difference regarding the 5Ah versus 10Ah versus 20Ah charge output is the charging time for the battery connected to the charger.

TimeUSB's timely (see what I did there?) response...

My initial email first then their response

Hello,
I have a question regarding your 12V 140Ah Smart LiFePO4 RV Battery.
Can I charge it with a 10 amp LiFePo charger without damaging the battery or voiding the warranty?
Thank you

Thank you for your message.
Yes, you can charge the 12V 140Ah Smart LiFePO4 RV Battery with a 10 amp LiFePO4 charger.
This charging current is within the safe range for this type of battery and will not damage the battery or avoid the warranty.
With a 10A charging current, it will take approximately 14 hours to fully charge your battery.
Please ensure that your charger is specifically designed for LiFePO4 batteries to maintain optimal charging performance and battery health.
To offer better support to you , could you please provide us with the model of your charger ?
I will help check the compatibility for you .
Look forward to your update .
Best regards

So then I responded with a link to the NOCO Genius10 charger. Awaiting a response.

One thing I did notice is that on NOCO's website, it says that the battery needs to have a BMS for it to charge correctly. So in other words, no dumb batteries lol
All of TimeUSB have BMS (Battery Management System). The "smart" batteries are considered the ones that have a bluetooth connection, such that you can read detailed status and have additional controls, via our smart phone.

PS: I did find a TimeUSB app on the iphone store for the BT enabled batteries.
PSS: I think if you could find a LiFePO4 without a BMS, you could call it the "stupid" battery. :D

ALL TimeUSB batteries have a BMS. Not all of them are bluetooth, though.

I have two cheap LiFePO 10A chargers, and TimeUSB approved them for use with my 100AH batteries. They do a great job. Usually, they take @ 4 hours to charge from 1/2 charge to full. I guess that equates to about the same as the times they give you for a fully depleted 140AH battery.

I have yet to fully deplete my batteries, but I have run them down pretty low when fishing the mouth of the Bay in heavy current, using spot lock.

Love these batteries!

My Time USB 140 ah battery arrived today, but not the charger ! Says I need the charger to wake it up....bad part is my android phone says it can' t download the App to use the bms system which really sucks !! Any tricks from you phone smart fellows for a computer dummy to make the connection
to my Samsung android phone ?
