What is the actual towing weight?

All that being said, how far are you planning to tow? I tow my boat up to 8 hours on trips. If all you're doing is dawdling over to the local lake 15-20 minutes.... I'd go for it. Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk

What is the actual towing weight?

Another thing to consider while calculating towing capacity is payload. Gross combined vehicle weight rating - vehicle weight = towing capacity. For example if your gross combined is 5000lbs (for simple math sake) and your vehicle weighs 3000lbs then 2000lbs is your towing capacity. Now put...

Please advise on first outboard purchase

Don't be afraid to run an older motor. Just either buy one that has been gone over by a marina or go over one yourself. The early 80's to mid 90's Johnson/Evinrude 9.9-15 and 20-35 families are both very good motors. I run a 1983 35 on my 16' vee hull. Also run a 1964 18hp on a deep and wide 12'...

Please advise on first outboard purchase

Agree that 15 seems like a small max hp for a 16' boat. That being said a 15 should get it on plane if you don't add too much weight to the boat. May need a hydrofoil if you're a big fella to get lift at the transom. Definitely recommend a Johnnyrude 15 or a Yamaha/Mariner. Sent from my...

What is the actual towing weight?

Hull weight is just that. Battery, trolling motor, engine, fuel all add to that plus trailer weight and anything you carry in the boat while towing.... Most manufacturers spec a package weight. If this is a tracker v16 you could be as much as 2500lbs total depending on model and options. Even a...

    Water intake

Here's a video of a 6hp I had fixed up. Kinda gives you an idea of what to look for. Also like mentioned, if you Rev it up in gear it should swish the water right out. https://youtube.com/shorts/cJFlsJELClw?feature=share Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk

No don't do that. If you're running it in a barrel and you shift into gear you'll definitely know. Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk

Fuel leaking around screws on metal gas can pick-up

This is what I used... because I had it in the garage. I keep it in my tackle box. In a pinch you can repair a hole in a boat on the shore and keep fishing. Don't ask me how I know! Lol. Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk

Fuel leaking around screws on metal gas can pick-up

I run a metal tank on my johnnyrude and had the same problem. You can probably find a replacement gasket but I just cleaned it up and let it dry. Then applied some orange rtv sealant and let it cure a couple days before using it. I did this with fuel in the tank and was just careful not to move...

Boat left in rain and won't drain.

Not sure how old your boat is, but sometimes that foam can get waterlogged if left out long enough. There should be a slot or hole down the center of the ribs, as mentioned these can get clogged harder to unclog if your boat has a floor. May take some fishing around with a wire or something to...

    Reattaching transom corner caps

Aluminum angle is pretty much always 6061. For the amount of bend required you can just knock it into shape. However if you like, some heat will definitely help ease the bend process. Heat exactly as described above and bend away. Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk

    Reattaching transom corner caps

Yes, I meant to say bend the angle to match the angle of the cap. You can mark it and bend it in a vise or clamp a block of steel underneath to keep the bends uniform looking and not mangled. Lol. As mentioned a long handled river tool helps and the cheap ones from harbour freight will do just...

    Reattaching transom corner caps

Could always use a dead blow to bend the lip down to match the caps at the corners. Then some good 3/16 rivets to hold it together Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk

    transducer mounting

On the budget side, if a brand spanking trolling motor isn't in the cards.. A cheaper unit out back for depth while running, I use a Garmin Striker 4+. And mount the better unit up front for use while fishing. A retractable pvc mount could be make cheap. A short piece with a tee could be clamped...

    transducer mounting

Minn Kota makes trolling motors with built in transducers. I think they're partnered with hummingbird though. Interesting option. Sent from my CLT-L04 using Tapatalk

    transducer mounting

Mount it on the transom. You can epoxy a piece of starboard (plastic) to the transom to save drilling holes in the hull. This also allows you to fine tune the location if required. Sometimes they pick up noise from the keel runners. Mount as per instructions on the starboard side or right side...

    1980 Sears 12 ft V "seat" cracks

You could probably lay a piece of aluminum over top (Maybe 3" wide or so) and rivet through the plate, seat and bracket and a couple rivets through the seats. This could help share the load and slow the cracks. If you're not pounding through waves and flexing the hull this may last quite some...
