    Best Trolling Motor Plug/Receptacle

I recently did some searching on just this subject when upgrading to LiFePO4 batteries. I'll warn you what many said was the best are not reasonably priced. Our existing plug is what came from the factory. A standard 2 prong push in type connector, with a "T" handle to pull it back out...

Not a match made in heaven!

As already stated, you want about 10% of the weight on the tongue. Might need to move battery or gear toward the front during transport. Trailer sway can get out of hand very quickly.

Not a match made in heaven!

When you hang a motor on the transom, you will probably need to put all your gear in the bow. Otherwise, the tail may wag the dog.

    Battery and charger

I don’t have access to my manuals but suspect the same. Does it mention wire size to use? Just thinking out loud. I’d assume it would go into charge mode. The charged battery is going to supply current up to its max, usually around 70A. Charge rates run from 25-50% of ah capacity. Not...

    Battery and charger

I’m curious if you had to use that method. It would seem that once it woke up, it’s going to draw high current from the other battery.

That’s the plan. Break my LA charging routine that has been engrained in me for a lifetime. :).

    Battery and charger

I doubt if there is any magic at 50% and 30-70% seems very reasonable. I think the main problem would be leaving it near fully discharged. The BMS is a slow drain and after it drops below the shut-off threshold it may require a special procedure to “wake” them up. I have had to do that with...

    Battery and charger

A search on Amazon did produce a 125ah one. More options at 150ah. These are brands that are not “Thill Tested” though. ;);)

    Battery and charger

How far down do you typically run those two G31 batteries to? If to 50% or lower you will completely drain the 100aH LiFePO4 and should get two. If 60%, than might squeak by with one. If 75% or higher, one should be fine. One or two, you will save allot weight. Also, you can do a nearly...

    Traveling with boat in tow

I think it is just going to be a personel choice, based on what your limitations may be, and what is available at the location you are planning to go. Myself, no problem fishing solo on any water that I'm familiar with. I'd probably stay away from unknown "big" water. Camping solo in a remote...

    Battery and charger

You need a charger that can handle the type of deep cycle battery that you plan to buy. Flooded Lead-acid, AGM, or LiFePO4. Assuming a lead-acid (flooded), group 27 battery would be plenty for fishing, but might want a little bigger if used for locomotion. I have had good luck with walmart...

    Cutting Trolling Motor Carbon Shaft

The 48" one was plenty long for this 1648. I normally run it with about a foot to spare. 54" is just too unwieldly. It was originally a river boat (no docks), but now it is a flat water boat that is. I have a "spacer" tiedown so the head doesn't bang the dock.

    Cutting Trolling Motor Carbon Shaft

Well, both of my Motorguide W45's are on the fritz. One has been "dead" for a while with bad control board. The other is experiencing motor problems. Maybe just needs new brushes, but didn't want to dig into that yet. Swapped the contol board over and that W45 is functional, but it has a 54"...

    Traveling with boat in tow

My son and I use to travel 1-2 hours away to fish small lakes, rivers, and resivors. On far trips, just rented boats or guides. These days, we maximize our time on the water by staying close to home, 20 minute travel time. It helps that it is probably the best fishery within an hour or so.

    Fishing Magazines

No subscriptions in a long time, but In-Fisherman use to be my favorite. Filled with multi-species how-to. I still get emails to order a subscription. Bass Masters was probably my 2nd favorite. Sports Afield and Outdoor Life not enough fishing and few how-to articles.

A 14’ Fishmaster purchased from Walmart in the early 90’s. Initially run with a ‘63 10hp Sportwin. Later an 18hp Nissan. Trailer was a galv shore lander purchased online and had to assembled. Used for many years. Son caught his first Susky smallmouth in it. Outside of the Nissan, which was...

    Does this stay on?

Don’t know, I’ve never owned an E/J near that size. How does the new prop fit with that white piece installed?

Wild Fires in Alberta, British Columbia

I’ve been to Jasper and Banff. Very beautiful area. I think it was 2015. It was a year after the flash floods. The mountains are too high and forests too vast for any kind of fire prevention management.

    TimeUSB 100AH 12.8V Pro LiFePO4 Battery Review

6awg should be good for 50 amps. There would have to be a severe voltage difference for that kind of current during balancing. When mine were fully charged and sat for a couple hours, there was only 0.02V difference.
