    Slow theft

taking off the tires and putting them back on every time you use the boat is too much work. Talk to your home owners insurance broker and get theft insurance on the boat. Then don't worry about it.

Boat prices and life in general

If the 16' size is right for you and the concern is falling off the front deck, add a railing.

    Multi-position fish finder mounting solution?

I like MrGiggles idea best. If the rear bench seat of your 14' boat puts you 3' from the transom and you typically stand 2' from the point of the bow, your "useable area" of the boat is only 9' long. Put the display in the middle of that and you'll never be more than 4-1/2 feet from the display.

How to Fillet a Common Carp - video

Can you explain what "cooked out" means.

    Bolting to the transom

    Stainless bolts will be fine.

    Eth in Non-Eth gas??

Ethanol will degrade plastic/rubber parts that aren't ethanol resistant. Since it's been part of gasoline for 20+ years, modern equipment should work fine with ethanol gas. Old, old equipment can have fuel hoses, pump diaphragms, etc damaged. I don't believe it will contribute to clogged...

    Broken Transom Support Bracket

Get it clean. Strip off the paint, remove any duct tape residue. Drop it off to a welding shop.

    Is this a good deal?

Some other thoughts (sorry so long). Trailer: Not a lot to go wrong. If it's been in salt water, galvanized trailers get rusty. A little rust is normal. Find the rustiest spot you see (usually the rear cross brace) and poke it with a screwdriver right in the rustiest spot. Make sure the...

    Is this a good deal?

I can't tell from the ad if it's a good deal or not. Condition of the boat and motor matter just like buying a car. Taking a good look at the boat inside and out will give you an indication of condition of the hull. It looks like a welded, rather than riveted hull but I'd have to see it in...

    Trolling motor

Yup. More horsepower doesn't mean more speed if the prop is set up to only screw through the water at 3mph.

    Bent prop shaft

If the OEM shaft is $800, you can get a used 25hp motor in good condition for that price. Whatever bent that shaft put a lot of stress on everything else. I would probably part the motor out and look for a different motor.

Need help--older Mariner 40EL rough idle with bad shaking in gear

I have a 55 gallon plastic drum that I've cut down to about 40 gallons. I test, tune, and repair my outboards in that and it has always worked fine for me. Maybe there's something different about testing it on the water but it's sure inconvenient when all my tools and my shop are on dry land...

Need help--older Mariner 40EL rough idle with bad shaking in gear

My guess: idle jets are clogged. I think a complete carb rebuild/cleaning is the solution. I have the same motor. The ongoing problem with old motors like this is that the plastic and rubber parts are degraded and there will be issues with those parts. Everything else is as good as the day...

    Transom saver

Bouncing down the road on a trailer is hard on a transom but if yours is already starting to show cracks, I think it needs to be repaired. Here's what I did to reinforce my Transom. I added a piece of 2" x 3" stainless tube behind the bench seat and tied that to the transom with 2 pieces of...

    Interior lights

I installed 4 of these license plate lights pointing downward. One on the side of the side console, one on a storage locker, and two on the rear of the bench seat to light up the fuel tank, battery area. All are below the gunnel so they aren't visible from other boats. They are plenty bright...

New to boating found pinhole leaks

No. Once you've cleaned it, whatever corrosive was causing the pitting is gone.

New to boating found pinhole leaks

I don't think you will be able to spot repair all of that damaged area and have success. You could brush coat the outside with Gluvit to seal it. Sort of like Flex Seal from the TV commercials but made for boats before Flex Seal was a thing. From your photos, it looks like a lot of damage...

Is this the right trailer for my boat?

I can't tell the size of the trailer from the photos because I don't know the size of the boat in the photos. If that boat is a 16' or more, I think you'll be okay for local trips. My trailer has the same size tires as your photos and I often trailer 10-15 miles from home. If I was trailering...

Replacement carb jets on old motor

I have the same motor. Last summer, I bought a pair of used carbs from ebay for $50. I was able to combine parts from my original carbs with the ones I bought and ended up with two good working carbs. I just ordered a water pump housing for the same motor from ebay. I'm sure I'll have to...
