    Nice sale on boat seats

I thought I'd pass this link along. I've done business with them and been happy with the products and prices. I don't work for them or get any benefit from this. SPORTSMAN'S GUIDE SPECIALS [[email protected]]

    Fish finder newbie

Okay, so there are no "dumb" questions right? Well, I've never used a FF before and need a little jump start. I've mounted mine on the transom so that the pointy end is toward the bow. It is below the bottom when it is in the down/locked position. Here are my questions...oh it is a...

    My tin for an ark?

I finally finished my mods under the carport and now it won't quit #$%^& raining. I checked the 10 day forecast and it looks like rain 8 out of 10.

    Non drilled transducer mount

I plan to attach a piece of plastic decking to the transom to use as a mount for my transducer. The transom is aluminum. What is the best adhesive to use? I have some JB Marine weld but I'm not sure that is "sticky" enough to hold it secure. Ideas? Thanks Old Geek (Steve)

    boat plug

Okay, this isn't really a joke, but thought it was funny. The transom drain on my boat looks like it was beat with a hammer and leaks a little. I decided to buy one of those T plugs and plug from the inside. Well I ran the nut all the way out and it still wouldn't go in. My wife came out to look...

She thinks it is a winner!

When I dragged my $600 boat home back in January my wife took one look at it, rolled her eyes and went back in the house. She asked how long I looked to find a boat in such sorry shape. I told her it was my retirement project and we'd be fishing from it in April. Well, thanks to all the...

Finally ready to start decking and install seat pedestals

Well, I've rebuilt my trailer and painted it...pics to follow. Then I took a good look at the boat and found that there were big blobs of silicone on nearly every bolt on the transom and on some new rivets under the stern. I scraped all the crap off and found that the bolts were all snug and the...

    I sold my extra trailer

I sold the 10 ft jon last weekend and the trailer on Friday. I asked the guy if it would fit his boat and this is the story he told me. He said he had a trailer just like the one I had but he went duck hunting in December with some ice on the lake. He didn't realize how thick the ice was and...

    Getting my motor back today

When I bought my boat in January the guy had a 4HP Mercury on it. He swore it ran fine a year ago, but he couldn't get it started. He offered to cut the price by $100 if I didn't take it. Well, since I didn't have a motor, I decided to take a chance and buy it with the motor. I tried to get it...

    PFD

I'm a big believer in wearing these at all times, since you can fall overboard and hit your head. That said, this year I bought a new PFD from BPS. The old one I had was a high flotation vest that was really uncomfortable since it restricted you arm movement. I would unbuckle the top two straps...

    trailer fender?

Okay, I've had my boat sitting in the back yard and finally got to work rebuilding the trailer. I noticed I'm missing one of the fenders. Do they really do anything except keep the bottom of the boat cleaner? I notice the bunks are 9' long and 6 inches wide. They are rotten and have no carpet...

    Fuel oil mix

I have a 1973 4 HP Mercury 2 cycle. I'm trying to determine the proper fuel/oil mix for it. I found a manual but it talks about using an oil injection system AND mixing the fuel at 50:1 to achieve a 25:1 ratio. Things I've read over the years is that the oil injection systems were notoriously...

    tongue weight

I'm guessing that my boat is balanced nicely on my trailer as I can lift the tongue with one hand and put it on the ball. That said, it seems to rattle on the hitch every time I hit some bumps. I'm guessing the tongue weight right now is about 50 lbs. What is ideal? How does it effect the...

    Big winter storm

The Weather Channel cries wolf so much about these I don't always pay attention. This one looks like it will slam most of the country pretty bad with snow or freezing rain. My daughters are grown and live near St Louis. It is tough being a hundred miles away when something like this is coming...

    Mercury 4HP 2 stroke help

I bought a boat, motor and trailer on Monday. I got it all at a real good price so I expect it will need a little work. It was really cold that day and the motor wouldn't start. I have a manual coming on this but wanted some ideas on things to try first to get the motor started. It has been...

    Old or new?

I bought a 1648 Lowe yesterday used but not too abused. The trailer needs some TLC as the winch needs replacing and the wiring look terrible (but the lights work). The frame is pretty stout with 4 cross braces. I need an opinion or two. I have a like new galvanized expandable trailer at home...
