I received an email from Yamaha in February announcing that they were adding power trim to the 15"and 20" tiller 25 hp models. I called the local dealer and got on the list for it. I currently have a 2020 25hp 15" model. I love the motor but I really wanted power trim and electric start. Well they called Monday and I went pick it up. I haven't mounted it yet and was a little disappointed to see it uses a different bracket so I will have to drill new holes. Also they advertised a shorter tiller but it is exactly the same. I had cut 1" off the handle and was hoping to not have to do it again on the new one.Just wanted to let everyone know it's available now. BTW the hull is a 1548 Southfork with a slight V.

What tiller do these have on them? They have the big multifunction tiller like they use on the bigger hp models? I think they use a bracket with standard BIA holes for the ones with trim so at least the good news there would be that lots of other motors that are a little more hp would bolt on easy enough if you ever swap.
Was the price reasonable? I paid $3800 for my 2020 F25 new. Its short shaft with electric start. Back then to get trim, you had to get the long shaft remote version, which was over $4k, and then pay another $800 or so to get the tiller kit installed which brought it all to about $5k.

I really wanted PTT back when I bought my 2017 F25SWHC, almost went with Suzuki, but the weight concerned me.
I'm curious about the new tiller with this new model as well. I didn't like the way the tiller kit mounted to the remote version.

The tiller is the exact same as the the 2020 tiller I have. I paid 4890 after tax and freight for thepower trim and electric start. .It does use a different bracket. I had cut the old tiller 1 inch shorter and was hoping not to have to do it again. Haven't tested it yet as the old motor is still on the boat. It's a 1548 South fork v bottom

Well that's less than ideal.

I showed my buddy that worked at a power sports dealership with me years ago and he said " They went and Kawasakied it up huh?" They had good products but sometimes things looked like an after thought compared to Honda and Yamaha. I'm happy to have it anyway.

On the older Yamaha 20/25/30s you can put on an E-tec grip which has a switch in the end of the grip. I like those because it turns with the throttle so it easier to use while on the go.

I typically tweak it when I first take off for the day to dial it in due to the water chop/wind, the load I have and then how fast I plan to cruise and I pretty much leave it there. Trimming it down for holeshot and then up for max speed on plane isn't really a big deal for a 25 on a 1648 flatbottom lol.

So I just hung a CMC on it. Wired in a handle mounted PT&T switch. It is in addition to the one on the side of the gunwale.
I never use the one on the tiller, it's in the end of the tiller. It's kind of awkward to try to twist or hold throttle while turning and also trying to trim in/out all at the same time. Under way I exclusively use the gunwale mounted switch. MUCH easier!
The other advantage of the CMC is that it allows you to raise the engine. I mounted the CMC level with the top and raised the motor on the CMC a 1/2" at a time. I think I'm at 4" above now and that's about all I can go with the prop I have. Better prop I could go higher. And it goes faster, if that's a concern (is not in my case)
Where I'm using the rig, the higher I can get it the better. Some areas, really need a jet but I've managed to get through, with difficulty (and have had to get out of the boat a few times to pull it over). Minor inconvenience.

Yeah I looked at going that route but I decided if I had to carry a battery I might as well have electric start. Adding the electric start for over 400 and the cmc it wasn't much difference in price. I'm getting used to it. I might add a gunwale switch if I t bothers me too much.
I have a 2019 F25 SWHC without tilt and trim. I added a cmc t&t to my boat and want to add a trim switch to the end of the handle. Did you add one to the end of your 2020 by cutting 1in off the end of the handle? Did you use the factory Yamaha switch and can you please post some pics?
I cut 1" off on the previous motor because the tiller was hitting the seat. I made a jack plate for the new motor to set it back further so I wouldn't have to cut it and because this one bolts through the transom. I didn't want to seal the holes when I take it off to run the old Johnson. I just separate the plate. I haven't added another trim switch yet.
My buddy is becoming a Tohatsu dealer and he is getting a 30 in soon. I will run it on my boat to see if it's worth it to upgrade. The power trim model uses the multi function tiller with the trim on the end of the handle. I think it will be too long. I'm not expecting a huge gain but I'd like more take off power without sacrificing top end. I know it's stupid because I only have 11hrs on the current motor and it runs fine but I have to see for myself.

I haven't heard much on the new tohatsus since they lightened them up, while still keeping them 3 cylinders. Would love to hear a review on them though. I ultimately went with my Yamaha 25 over the tohatsu 25 due to the 50 lb weight difference.
