Thanks to all for the response. Pappy it took a few times but got your "adjustment" done, & it worked, but only for about 8hrs of fishing. Now it's decision time, try & source another gearcase, that may also be worn, spend the coin for new parts, or try & find someone who needs a good power head. Thanks again to all.

Starting in 1978 OMC started making improvements to that gearcase. All the improvements were in by 1982. Look around and see what you can find.
