My buddy and I hit up a little-known, tiny little lake on Saturday near our home town, and what a great day!
Despite the heat, and despite the fact that we didn't get in there for the early morning bite, the bass in this lake were about as active as I have seen anywhere all year.
All of the fish we caught were in 3 ft or less of water, and every last one was caught on the Spro frogs, or a whacky-rigged Yum Dinger skipped under the docks and pontoons (with the exception of one of the fish my buddy caught flipping a big brush hog into a TINY patch of pads that I would have never guessed would hold a fish...)
It was pretty wild: we could drag those frogs through a patch of pads and pretty much count on getting at least 2 or 3 fish if not more out of each one, and the same could be said for the docks, and the greatest thing was that it seemed like the 3 to 3.5 pounders were a pretty average size for this lake. We had multiple double headers coming out of docks that were no more than 4' wide, and they were all really nice fish. The first pic we took of a fish was one of my first fish which I thought was a pretty nice fish, and probably the best I would get all day, and it turned out that this fish would end up being one of the smallest of the day. Just a fantastic day! I caught probably my 3 or 4 best fish of the year in one morning and afternoon. Not bad!
The only bummer is the big guy you will see pictured below managed to make one last run when I got him up alongside the boat, and managed to pull the tip of my new Vendetta rod into the side of the prop at the back of the boat and broke the tip off
It still works, but it's not a 7' rod anymore...
Anyway, here are some pics:
