ANyone ever used PVC for framing?

I know this may sound crazy and probably would not work but has anyone ever you schedule 40 PVC for framing a deck? It may be crazy and never work but if used correctly it could withstand a significant amount of weight and is lightweight.

Anyone?

I think it may be possible, but would take some careful engineering. When I was a kid I built a jon boat out of pvc and canvas for a boyscout project. I think by the time you spent the money on the tees and 90's it would take...you might as well have used aluminum. Just a thought....if you do use pvc take lotsa pics and let us know how it works.

I had planned to use aluminum but PVC was just a thought and I was curious if it has been done. Regardless gotta get rid of the wood, thats for sure!

Good point don't guess I took that into consideration. That's why I asked

I guess it would be possible but for how long is the question. Some places in the world use bamboo to build scaffolding so PVC should work to some extent.

how cold is cold to where it would turn brittle, ice fishing cold, or what??

It happens to guys that try to build cheap(er) duck blind frames around here. (SW Kentucky)

I'd just put a short piece in my refrigerator...and another short one in the freezer. Bet you could tell a lot in a few hours. Rich
