attaching piano hinges questions

How are you attaching the hinges to plywood at butt joints, I have only found one pic that and that looked like pop rivets? How well do they hold up over time as opposed to screws? Also how do you get the hinge to come out equally on each board with the carpet turned over the edge? Hopefully I get the pic attached that I found.

That looks like a fuzzy picture of screws.

Just predrill your holes and the screws will run true and not split out the plywood.
