We took a short weekend trip up to the St. Lawrence river to try and catch some pike and walleye. Well, the ridiculously clear water meant the walleye were way too deep to fish for, at least with our equipment. The pike were nowhere to be found ... most likely down deep chasing the walleye around.
So we switched to fishing for smallmouth bass. We finally figured out that they were holding on main-river structure in about 25-45 feet of water. We used crawler harnesses on bottom bouncers, jigs, and drop shots to catch quite a few ... and some pretty big ones too.
It was a really fun place to fish. Endless amounts of structure to target, nice scenery, and lots of nice places to eat. I'll go back for sure.
Here is a short video of the trip.
