Battery questions

Im planning on buying a battery soon. I'm going to keep it in the back of my Jon boat because i have a transom mount trolling motor. Are battery boxes necessary? I sea that some boxes come with mounting hardware. How do most people install/mount a battery so it doesn't bounce around when trailering the boat?

The battery box will protect it. You can actually mount it further up the boat, if it will help with your weight balancing, and just run a longer wire...
