I am looking into getting a small boat for electric only lakes and small rivers.

My question is, How shallow of water will a 12 ft. v-hull boat float in?
And how shallow of water will a 12 ft. jon boat float in?

Thanks

Hi Billy, and welcome! Alot of what you're asking would depend on what all you have loaded into your boat.

Well, There will be 2 people and about 75 lbs of tackle.

The jon would be 36 inches wide too.

still need more info... 2 people 150 each or two big boys? the vee bottom will have a deeper draft than a jon boat

300 pounds of people. Battery and trolling motor and gear..another 100 pounds or so.

Evenly distributed I would say 6 inches (estimate) with the motor not in the water.

All things being equal, the flat jon will need less water. For what you're describing, I would definitely get a flat bottom jon boat. I have a 16' flat jon and I love it. You can get into pretty shallow areas with it.

My main concern is that one of the rivers I am going to be fishing is very shallow in some spots, as in like 6 inches and I'm not sure if I could get a v bottom through that. This river doesn't have a boat launch either.

That's when you wear an old pair of tennis shoes (don't go barefoot) & pull it through the shallow spots

That'll be a problem when its only 30 degrees outside. lol

lol, OK....then wear boots.........

buy 'em books, send 'em to school.... #-o

When you get that shallow, you will have to lift the motor anyway. Then depending on current you can use oars to push you through or Waders/boot to get through.
