Can i use a freshwater trolling motor for saltwater?

Not really asking, this motor is going on 10 years and just replaced the foot microswitch for $15 and changed the retrieval rope last year. I am only 2mi. from a natural ramp.
Boat was not in saltwater for first 2 years.
I just give it a rinse when I come home.
Not really sure a saltwater motor is in my future when this one craps out.
I run the trolling motor intermittently 10x the distance the kicker goes depending on wind.
It has finally gotten ratty enough to post durability pics.

Some regular maintenence and painting would slow that corrosion down !! You might get even more years out of it !!

I have a saltwater trolling motor and from what I've been told the only difference is the color and the cost. The only concern is if something happens during the warranty period and they can establish a fresh water motor has been used in the salt. That may void your warranty. My original freshwater Minn Kota Powerdrive was used in the salt for about 15 years without an issue. I only replaced it because the foot pedal failed and I wanted i-pilot.

May want to check and see if anode is available for your motor.

Motorguide makes one for some models.

You need to remove the prop and rinse regularly in there. Otherwise things tend to rust together. IF the shaft gets rust on it, then the seal will leak and water will get into the motor. I like to put silicone grease on everything behind the prop to help protect. If you are diligent, it will last quite awhile.
