HELLO ALL,

IVE BEEN A MEMBER OF THIS FORUM FOR A YEAR AND FIGURED I WOULD FINALLY FILL YOU IN ON MY PROJECT.

I JUST SPENT THE LAST HOUR ON HERE TYPING OUT MY BUILD STORY AND SOMEHOW IT DECIDED TO DISAPPEAR AS I WAS ADDING PICS SO IM GONNA MAKE THIS SHORT TONIGHT NOW AND GET BACK LATER.

MY BROTHER BLEW UP HIS OUTBOARD ON HIS 1648 JON BOAT AND BOUGHT A SALVAGE HONDA 1200CC TURBO WAVERUNNER TO TRANSFER THE POWERPLANT TO HIS BOAT. THIS IS WHAT SPARKED MY NEED TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

LAST FALL I DECIDED TO SELL MY 1752 LOWE ROUGHNECK WITH 125 MERCURY OUTBOARD JET AS I WAS NOT OVERLY IMPRESSED WITH ITS OVERALL OPERATION SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I DID PUT A JET TUNNEL UNDER IT AND DO A FEW OTHER MODS WITH IT AND HATED TO SEE IT GO BUT HAD TO MOVE ON BEFORE I GOT PISSED AND SUNK IT. IT WAS THE SECOND BOAT IVE EVER OWNED AND ONLY HAD IT FOR THE SEASON.

SEPTEMBER 2014-- BOUGHT A JET PUMP ASSEMBLY WITH VERY LOW HRS OFF A 2009 YAMAHA FZR WAVERUNNER AND A 2012 YAMAHA R1 ENGINE WITH LESS THAN 1000 MILES TO POWER IT FOR A DECENT PRICE---I KNOW A CROTCH ROCKET ENGINE ISNT THE BEST AND EASIEST MATCH FOR A BOAT BUT COULDNT FIND A WAVERUNNER ENGINE THAT I WANTED TO MATCH IT FOR WHAT MY BUDGET WAS. LOVE ME A GOOD CHALLENGE ANYWAY!!!

OCTOBER 2014-- BOUGHT A BUNCH OF 1/8" AUMINUM SHEETS AND SOME 1 1/2" SQUARE TUBING ALONG WITH SOME OTHER ODDS AND ENDS. DECIDED TO TAKE A WEEK OFF WORK AND BUILD ME A BOAT...... (I AM NO ENGINEER/ PROFESSIONAL WELDER BY ANY MEANS, JUST LOVE TINKERING IN THE GARAGE). AFTER THE WEEK WAS UP, I HAD BUILT SOMETHING THAT RESEMBLED A BOAT AND WAS KIND OF IMPRESSED. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A 16.5' LONG, 60" WIDE ON THE FLOOR FLAT BOTTOM BOAT. I MADE THE SIDES A LITTLE EXTRA TALL TO KEEP MY KIDS SAFE. I AM WORKING WITH A HOBART HANDLER 190 MIG WELDER WITH SPOOLRUNNER 100 THAT I BOUGHT FOR MY LAST BOAT TUNNEL PROJECT.

WINTER 2014/2015-- WELDED BRACES INSIDE BOAT, MADE A CAGE FOR JET OFF THE BACK OF BOAT, A CRADLE FOR ENGINE AND A FEW OTHER ODDS AND ENDS. BOUGHT A BUNCH OF STUFF FOR LATER ON IN THE BUILD. TOO DAMN COLD TO DO MUCH.

I WILL POST A TON OF PROGRESS PICS THAT I HAVE IN THE NEAR FUTURE AND WOULD LOVE SOME IDEAS/CRITISIZM FROM ANYONE THAT HAS OR HASNT TRIED THIS.

THATS ALL FOR NOW

If you could find a way to run a large sprocket on the engine, and a small sprocket on the pump shaft, it would turn some serious RPM's. But you would probably have to beef up the thru hull bearings with additional ones. And it may reach a certain RPM where it begins to cavitate and lose efficiency. It would take some experimenting, but it would be cool, for sure.

Should be interesting. If I ever get tired of mine this is the route I'll probably go. He could run a bearinged jackshaft between the motor and prop shaft or do something inline with a coupling at the sprocket. The trans would make matching the impeller load to the engine RPM a lot simpler too. Hmm...

Here is the beginning of the project

Cool build! Wish I had your welder.

I just spent 15 minutes typing a post only to also lose it before it took. So here goes again . . .

I've been keeping it to myself, but I am also working on a CR install. Little brother to yours, YZF600R, was a basket case.

I was feeling it was a crazy idea, but that never stopped me before. I don't like my 2 smokey PWC engine & couldn't find a Yammie marine engine at affordable price.

I don't want to steal your thunder, but have made some progress on mine. I will temp mount the engine above deck & run chain down to shaft, supported with a pillow block bearing. If engine works out (I question if it has enough torque), then will fab permanent mounts, etc. Will have to move my fuel tank too.

I next need to figure out how to mount the sprocket onto the shaft without machining the splines. Thinking of heat shrinking a collar on with a woodruff key.

I have modified the header, let us know what you are doing there.

Keep post the pictures!

Checking fit for intake grate. Found out everything was 3/8 of an inch to low so had to raise everything up on transom. What a pain

Trying to make my water intake out of 6 inch pipe. Spent hours trying to perfect it. Had to redo a couple times due to my own stupidity from overlooking some material thinkness issues.

I am working on my heat exchanger/ waterbox right now. Also trying to figure out gear ratios for sprocket sizing for my drive. Decided to save room in the boat and am mounting engine directly above water intake. It will sit on a stand that I built a couple weeks ago. It will stick up a ways higher than transom but not near as high as my outboard did. There isn't any possible way to shorten my intake either because yamaha has some special stuff going on under there that I'm just going to leave alone.

Mock up of steering console I made a few months ago. Seeing if I will have enough room to make one for passenger (my dog)
