I am ready to hear comments pro and con about the different boat manufacturers.
my considerations are , G3, Alumacraft ,Lowe and Sea Ark.
I will be buying a tiller version in the 1860 and would benefit from the experiences here.
thank you

I recently went from a 1654 Xpress to a 2070 Lowe.

Did a lot of shopping around and I'll give you my thoughts.

Alumacraft - These boats just never appealed to me, I guess I saw too many things that looked like they might become a problem, lightweight fasteners, too much plastic etc... I have no real world experience, this was simply my impression. Boat didn't look to be worth what it cost.

G3 - These are everywhere here, and I love a Yamaha motor. Plenty of dealers available if you need service. This was my 3rd choice.

Xpress - Nice boats, fast hulls, maybe not quite the boat they used to be. This was my 2nd choice. I pitted an Xpress dealer against a Lowe dealer with a list of must haves and let them duke it out. Lowe won.

Lowe - This boat met all of my requirements, and at a lower price point than an equally rigged Xpress or G3. Also it has an aluminum center console as opposed to plastic or fiberglass.

Sea Ark - These things are tanks. I think I may have one custom built for my next rig. Again price wise the Lowe just came out hard to beat and it was available, the Sea Ark would have to be ordered and built (and I was boatless).

Tracker Grizzly - Too many horror stories out there about poor service especially regarding busted welds.

War Eagle - Nice boats, but for the money they better be. Highest dealer markup of anything I looked at. Come on the name isn't worth all that. If you can get a good deal gor for it.

Polar Kraft - I really was impressed with the construction of these boats, but no local dealers and a deeper draft than the others pulled me back. They have a sunstantial V at the bow. The double tube gunwales are nice though.

Alweld is one you might look at, like Sea Ark they build a tank of a boat.

Again none are bad boats, and I'm not trying to insult anyone's rig (I've had some stinkers in the past) these are just the thoughts I had while shopping.

IF and when I go out and shop for another rig, it will be a bigger boat. Probably in the 17 to 20 footer range.

I definitive want a hull that can take a serious beating... Not because I beat it up, but because I don't want to worry about it if I do accidentally run over some seashells on the bottom while beaching...

Anyone ever heard of eXcel boats? The build methodology makes me think they are one TOUGH BOAT!
