Well,

I have always ignored boats so I never paid much attention to them.

Now that I am looking for a boat, at least in this area I am noticing that everybody and their mother are getting rid off
their big rig. Lost of big boats for sale, I am asking myself why ?

Is it because of the GAS prices and the amount of Gas that it would take a Ford F250 to pull one of those big Rigs.

People not longer able to haul their boats around to long distances so they are just getting rid of the trucks and the boats.

I live in north Florida where there are lots of nice rivers to take a small boat fishing or just to go fishing even without a boat. But, big boats can not get into these rivers, so you need to travel far, either to the ocean or to a lake big enough that could take your boat, traveling cost money these days....

That brings me to my next point...

Hunting for ponds and lakes that are not too far so that I can fish... My son was very disappointed that yesterday we traveled so much looking for a boat but we never got to go fishing. So, I took him to a near by pond that was mentioned on a local list of fishing spots. First there is hardly any signs to the place, and when I finally find it, it is all dried up. The pond was so big that it even had a boat ram and now it is all cover with over grown wheat.

My heart felt so sad to discover a body of water that at some point was the source of joy for the local residents and now to see it gone with no return... Very sad. This pond is call the Watermelon Pond, big enough to have its own boat ram, small enough not to make it and dry up.

Anyways, today is another day and we are going pond hunting once again... Looking for the perfect pond where me an my son could go spent some quality time and not be bother by anybody.

What is the best way to spot fishing ponds and small lakes, is there a website where people post places they have found and enjoyed ?

Try your states fish & game web site as a starter, they often will list state parks and lakes. You can also try google earth put in your address and then pan around the area that you live in. You will see the bodies of water. Many of these will probably be private so you will have to get permission to use them (there is a thread somewhere on the forum). Or you can just go down to a local bait store and ask. These people are a great wealth of info because they hear it all from customers who are out there fishing.

Forgot to add....I agree, fuel costs are sucking the life out of everyone. I HATE seeing many people having to sell their campers, boats, and vehicles because they can no longer afford to enjoy them. That's NOT what this country is about (or at least didn't use to be).

I think most who are selling the larger boats are downsizing, which is putting more "demand" (and we all know what that does for the oil companies  ) for smaller boats, which not only drives up their cost, but makes them harder to locate.

Same principal on smaller cars & trucks. Everyone who owns one wants to sell it, since in their minds it's tripled in value.....regardless if it's 15 years old with 200,000 miles on it.......it's STILL a $10,000 vehicle

I like to use google Earth to locate bodys of water.

This is your best bet. Type in your address in google and click on the map.....zoom down and look for all the bodies of water, then go for a long drive and check them out.

Sometimes the little kettle ponds are not in the Fisheries Systems for the State. I never knew there were 4-5 ponds near me until I saw this.
