Just wondering if a 6hp Evinrude would be too much motor for a Tracker 12ft Jon

Your From Upstate? where? I am in Saratoga. 12 footers usually have a 10HP limit, most of them anyhow.

I hate to be the one but...

If the boat has a rating plate on it that lists max rating @ 3 hp and you run a 6 hp. you run the risk of getting a ticket from the DNR (in Wisconsin you will be ticketed)

More importantly (if you have insurance on the boat) it will not cover any claims submitted for damage or injury resulting from operating an overpowered boat

That being said I am very surprised and little confused over a 12 ft Tracker being rated for just a 3 HP....

Is it an original factory plate attached to the boat...? Usually the plate will list Max weight limits as well as Max HP...and are yellow in color....

I have a 5.5 rude on my 1436 and it's slower than I'd like. The 6hp rude will be fine on a 12' boat.
