Gap between foot and tunnel

I recently purchased a 1656 G3 ccj dlx with 60/40 jet. The boat was set up by factory and untouched by previous owner. From everything I've seen and read, it seems like the foot should be closer to tunnel. The gap from the edge of the foot to the tunnel 2 3/4". From what I've seen, guys like them closer. Thanks for any advice.

My foot is now about 4” from the hull. I just lowered a pin setting and not sure how it runs now though

That's a little farther out than mine. I added transom wedges which helped tuck mine in close and my foot is around 1-1.5" from the tunnel when the motor is straight ahead. I think your riser plates that mount the motor set it back a little and it doesn't look like it's trimmed in all the way, is it? Any pictures showing higher up on the motor and mounting bracket?

Here is a pic of the mounting bracket and how the motor sits. It is trimmed all the way down.

I think that's probably as close as you're going to get. I think the riser bracket on your boat and the transom wedges on mine are the difference we have. I'm still surprised that G3/Yamaha use that bracket setup vs a shorter motor. You could add a tunnel extension to help the water flow into the jet intake if you think you're having issues.

Thanks for the input. I got another question about the height of the foot. What do think about the height of foot to the tunnel? I have one more hole I can up if need be.

The boat runs about 25 - 26mph as it sits, but if I can gain a few mph by making adjustments, I'm all for it.

That boat is pretty heavy so there probably isn't much left for that motor to help with. The pods might add a little drag as well so you're doing pretty good at 25-26.
