Hp rating

I’ve got an as yet unidentified double cockpit tin runabout. Restoration is progressing,(transom, steering, upholstery, etc.). The boat is just shy of 14’. I own an 18hp Evinrude ‘57 that I’ve used with a ‘49 PennYan wood and canvas runabout I restored.
I plan to sell the Woodie and run the aluminum runabout.
I’d like some advice on the motor hp I should be pursuing. I used to run a 35HP Evinrude BigTwin ‘57 on another boat. My boat wizard pal could update another one for me. (Fuel pump, elec start and choke).
I don’t want to overpower the boat, but I feel that it could handle more than the 18hp I’ve got.
I’d appreciate some input from Ann owners of similar boats.

I would go with the 35 hp. If @ wot it is squirrely, then just stop the throttle back to 3/4.

BTW, how about pictures of the Penn-Yan. That was a great brand back in the day.

I’m also concerned about the additional 50 lbs on the transom. Should that make much of a difference?

Very cool, love the horn!

If you were to put the fuel tank & battery in the bow, the extra weight would be balanced out.

As an alternative, maybe your motor guy can tweak a few extra HP out of a 25 & save the weight.
