Hull design is a matter of choice, but what is advantage to mod-v versus flat front in a large jon?
Secondly: personal preference: G3, Xpress, Grizzly, Alweld, Lowe Roughneck welded boats. Looking at 4 different boats and would like a little input about better brands.
Thanks for your help!!

Looking to get wet soon.

2 top boats I'm lookin at: 1. 2006 1852 G3 mod v, front trolling motor, 9.9 Merc with 15 carb on it. 2. 2004 16' Xpress flat bottom with 40/30 Yamaha jet. Both are very clean and well kept. Opinions.....

The mod v hull will yield a smoother ride in chop than a flat bow and will sorta slice it's way through a wave rather than bulldoze I have a 16ft mirrocraft mod v and in heavy chop or boat wake still quite rough but i believe it is smoother than a flat bottom in the same conditions

If you are referring to the 16' boat in Hummelstown Pa., I wouldn't be afraid to buy that boat. Just make sure to check the bottom of the hull for river rash. A little is OK, but some of them look like they were towed to the river without a trailer! The 40/30 jet would come in handy for running skinny water, but that's about the only advantage to a jet.
The 1852 W/a 15 hp. may be a little underpowered, but will get you there. A 16' Jon is decent size, 18'+ is big, but it depends on what you want it for.
If a smaller boat is an option, there's a beautiful Polar craft 15' MV on the York PA. CL; no gas motor, but looks like a really nice boat! Comes with a live well and bow mount trolling motor.
JMO!
If you were to buy the 16, and don't want the jet, shoot me an e-mail.
Good luck!

Food for thought - G3 boats have a lot of plywood in them....

Transom core, and under the bow cap.
