Keeping boat on trailer, good idea or not?

I am running into a problem, I have too many boats (or too much stuff in general). I want to get my tinny ready to use without needing an hour of prep. Without space in the garage, the easiest thing to do would be to keep the boat on the trailer. Is this a good idea? My tinny is old and has no drain plug, nor do I have a good cover. My thoughts were to add a drain plug, and let it sit on the trailer. The trailer is going to need a bit more 'tuning' to get a 100% fit but that is not a big deal.

Is keeping an open boat on a trailer a bad idea? The cost of a cover would nearly exceed what I paid for the boat and trailer.

I would add the drain and keep it on the trailer. I keep mine on the trailer all the time. Just be sure to fit the trailer to your hull, and there should be no problems.

X2. You might consider storing the boat with the bow raised so any water will run out the new drain hole. I have also found that the heavy duty plastic tarps at HD or Lowes will last a year or two if well secured and they do provide protection from the elements if supported so water doesn't accumulate.

If its just an open aluminum boat with no wood, electronics, carpet etc etc .... then you can add a plug and leave it out in the elements with no worries. The paint might fade, but it won't hurt anything else.
