Lowrance 4x hook help

I have recently gotten into fishing. I bought myself a 14 ft aluminum boat. After doing some looking around I decided to purchase the lowrance 4x hook. When I installed the transducer I made sure that the bottom of the transducer was a 1/8 inch below the bottom of the boat. I am getting correct depth readings, but when I am out on the water I don't get any arches for reading fish like I do in the simulation mode. Anybody have any suggestions on what mit be wrong and why I'm never reading any arches on the screen?

are you seeing anything that resembles arches? or marks?

you wont see perfect arches like in simulation mode unless a fish is perfectly still in the water and you are going at a perfect speed over it (never happens)

Are you seeing any change in the bottom, contours, etc. ?? You should check the position of the transducer to make sure it is level with the boat while in the water, not on the trailer. If your boat is stern heavy, you did to adjust the ducer's position slightly to make it level with how the boat sits in the water at rest, and then test it while at different speeds. Adjust as needed.

I am seeing changes in the bottom and I do see the contours. The very first time I had the boat out while at speeds the depth kepted flashing so I made adjustments til the flashing of the depths stopped, while I am anchor down for fishing and I am catching crappies, and walleyes in a few honey holes ik of i don't see them on the screen. I also made sure that the unit I'm using is set to the same type that the transducer wire shows for what transducer type it is. I've tried turning on the fish Id to try and match what the fish id was showing compared to how it would look without the fish Id and once the fish id was turned off there would be no arches where it just showed on the fish id, when I bought the depth finder I was told not to use the fish Id cause it was inaccurate.

if the fish are not in the cone angle of the transducer you wont see them on the screen.

try putting a large weight on our line and drop it right under the t/d and see if you can read it on the screen

you did not answer my question, are you seeing anything other than the bottom? Not necessarily arches?

When I am drop shot fishing for walleye, i can see my bait move up and down on the screen when I give it a light jerk off the bottom. And I can always see on screen when I bring my line up for the bow anchor it will show on the screen a line going from the top of the water to the bottom. And as far as seeing anything that resembles an arch I don't there always showing up as a bigger blob on the screen. I work 12 hr shifts and wouldn't be able to go out fishing til Thursday once I'm done with work. I'll take a few pictures of how I have the transducer set on the boat and then I'll post a video of how the depth finder looks while running the boat and while a float. Maybe that will help better with my questions

those bigger blobs are probably fish. Sounds like its working correctly

heres the why of the arch.

If a fish is still, and a boat passes over top of it, the sonar measures the distance of the target (fish) from the transducer (t/d).

When its approaching the fish, when it enters the cone angle of the t/d its at its furthest away point. So thats the start of the arch (deepest point on the screen) as the boat gets closer to the fish, the distance is shorter so the arch goies higher on the screen, until the boat is right over the fish. At this point its as close to the t/d as its going to get (highest point of the arch) as the boat goes away from the fish, the arch goes down again (further away) until it leaves the cone angle of the t/d

The same can happen if the boat is still and the fish passes directly under the t/d and does not stop.

This is the theory behind the fish arch.

this is why you rarely see arches like they show in demo mode. You may see a partial arch, a blob or anything in between.

Like if a fish just sits there underneath the t/d, you would see a straight line on your screen as the screen scrolls

hope this helps. just remember the t/d is measuring the distance from the t/d to the target, nothing else

this is for standard sonar, not down imaging, etc

You may be in an area of stealth fish. They have learned when to stand on their tails to minimize the acoustic signature. Turn up the gain.
