Yeah … hate to pile on you, but there is no 12’ tin that is rated for 20hp …I have a 12ft Jon Boat new to me with a 20hp Suzuki outboard and it is really too heavy …
(((((((( Time warp. What were you doing in November 2011? ))))))))
I would like to do the same, but to sit on middle bench the extension tiller would have to be 5ft. long and I can't find those, so it would have to be PVC DIY. Perhaps still having trouble with the tiller wanting to bump into my body as I steer sitting in the center of the bench.I sit like Great White, on the second bunk, centered. and use an extension handle.
DaleH, I'll look into that 'ADD a SE Sport 200 hydrofoil wing/fin',
I read about these hydrofoils made by many other brands and found another one on the site I will paste here that claims to give me more lift up of the transom because it is not flat shaped but curved which also gives better help with steering at high speeds without sudden loss of control, the site says: 'Stingray Hydrofoils AIRO Hydrofoil does feature pronounced curvature for better lift on heavier small boats.' so please tell me if this website's explanation sounds true that the Stingray brand would be a better option for me by lifting the transom higher faster and providing better steer control...the site is: Boat Hydrofoils Keep Your Stern Raised for a Smoother Ride and Better Acceleration
If you check the stats on the boat you will find it is rated for a maximum of 7HP.I have a 12ft Jon Boat new to me with a 20hp Suzuki outboard and it is really too heavy as I sit on back bench with seat nearly all the way to right side of bench so that I can actually steer. I am the only one aboard and it puts too much weight on back right corner of boat, only a few inches of above water there. It is terrifying when I steer at high speeds because just the slightest movement of tiller left or right overpowers the boat's balance and things go haywire, so I have to slow down so much to make slight turns. I hope you will advise me on how to rectify this problem for safety reasons. My plan is to get a tiller extension and try to sit in the middle of the bench in front of the back bench, but I don't know how will be able to truly be centered on the bench to balance weight since the tiller extension may still be forcing me to move my seat to the right side of boat. That leaves me imagining making my own bizarre Tiller extension that would basically be PVC extending forward to make a large SQUARE SHAPE THAT WRAPS AROUND MY BODY in order to make it possible to sit perfectly centered on the bench nearest front of boat, which is actually in the center of the hull. This is the only way I can imagine being able to get centered in boat for balance but I am not sure if the DIY PVC Square shape of a tiller extension will be safe to really try. Please give me your opinions.
Way too much motor for that boat my friend. Go with a 8 hp or max 9.9............they will give reasonable speed, be lighter and much safer and to top it off they burn less fuel.I have a 12ft Jon Boat new to me with a 20hp Suzuki outboard and it is really too heavy as I sit on back bench with seat nearly all the way to right side of bench so that I can actually steer. I made my own seat mount, basically a U shaped wood piece to straddle the tank seat in the boat. You could easily slide your seat from side to side to get that perfect position. Once your butt was on it, it did not move very well. Even when another person drove my boat, they could make the seat into the best position.Thats good to hear...motor should be here very shortly!
Hey thanks...you make the sliders mounts eh? Thats cool? Is there a way to lock the seat to the slider?
