I am pretty new to this forum and its because I am in the processes of completely restoring my 1991 16ft Lund. I have been looking around this site for a few days and have came in contact with the whole painting aluminum thing. My outside is nice and that isn't a problem. The inside is still in great shape but it just needs an uplift. The entire insides of my boat are going to be brand new and id like to repaint it to give it that full restore look. The paint that is on it is the original paint lund applied and there are no chips at all. The areas you see in the pics are where I already ripped the floor up that's why its all chipped and cleaner looking aluminum. My plan is to purchase rustoleum etching primer and rustoleum oil based paint for the finish in a gray/white color. The thing I need to know is do I absolutely need to strip it down to bare aluminum to start. Or can I just clean very well with a pressure washer, then hit it with 50/50 water vinegar, pressure wash again, Sand it down a bit. Pressure wash again. Then comes the painting part. Rustoleum etching primer (in a can I think) then lightly sand after a day, clean the dust off. Then hit it with the oil based paint. Probably use roll and tip for the paint since I don't own a spray gun.
