I'm wanting to move the console up a bit farther and need to get a replacement. Is this a standard cable or do I have to get a certain type? I looked the Teleflex NB2 and it looked like the same style of cable but I wanted to run it by the guys on here before I ordered one.

Here's a pic of the steering cable I currently have on my boat.

There are basically 2 types of steer cables. The difference is what type of steering setup you have on your console. there is a rotary type, and a rack type. if it is the rotary, the cable slides in, usually on the bottom, wraps around the steering gear, and comes out in a plastic sleeve at the top, parallel to the cabel at the bottom.

In the rack type, the cable will go into the steering "box" in the same manner, but will extend in a track out the other side, on the same plane as the cable that came into the box.

As far as the engine end, all of the ones I have been around are universal.

I'm guessing I have a rotary system. There is a white tube that comes out of the block the steering wheel is mounted to that I'm not sure what it is for as well. It just kind of sits under the console. I'll try and take a picture so maybe you know what I'm talking about since I'm sure I did a bad job explaining it.

That is a rotary system then. The white tube is what the extra cable slids into as you turn the wheel to the left.

Not sure, my system is a rotary and it too has the white tube the cable goes thru. Does the cable go all the way thru it, and back out the original direction, if so it is a rotary, rack and pinion will have a track that the cable will ride back in forth thru. Post some pics and we can decide for sure. either way, its pretty simple, I have had a 18' cable and a 14' cable in my boat both ways was simple.
