I'm doing my first restore on a 1988 15' Starcraft, 5 1/2 ' wide flat bottom and trailer. This boat has been completely gutted by the previous owner for duck hunting. The boat and trailer has sat for more than 8 years and has rusted parts and bolts all over the thing. I look forward to you guys suggestions. So far I have stripped the trailer of its accessories and tried sanding it with a 60 grit paper random orbiter. The paint did seem to come off to well, thinking I should go up a to 30- grit paper. My plan:
a. Prime and paint trailer and rewire
b. Sand boat with 100 grit
c. Prime with rustoleum self etching primer
d. Not sure which type of paint but im thinking i wanna paint it sand color all around the boat.
If anyone sees any problems please correct me.
I have attached pictures.

Ive got a lake not even a mile away so im gonna gear it for lake fishing ATM.(primarily for bass). I also have slow running rivers closed by that I want it geared up for. The trailer is into very bad shape. Since the sand pad couldnt get the crude off im thinking of using a high caustic stripper then scraping it off then wash and resand. Also the leaf springs on the passenger side of the trailer is gonna have to be rewelded, cause the rust ate through the weld. Probably gonna be a week or so before I can even think about starting on the boat.

I have the exact same boat year and model. I am in the process of redoing mine for the second time. I used pressure treated wood in my first build not knowing that I should not. Also I have now learned what I really liked and disliked about my first build. This time I am using non treat wood, no carpet but Hydro-turf and non skid material. I did find small bits of aluminum damage from the treated wood.
