Hello all, I'm currently using a 12 foot stock jon boat to fish a few local lakes I cant get a fiberglass boat on. I want to build a deck jon boat. I have a few basic questions about hull types and any info would be greatly appreciated. I'll try my best to describe my plans.
The boat is going to be 16 ft.
I'm looking to build a full deck in the front and back with compartments, rod lockers, on board battery charger, and two trolling motors. One in stern and one in the bow.

Which hull type do the decked out guys prefer? Or is their a preferred model for decking? I'm partial to a flat bottom but I'm not completely sold on that hull. I'd like a boat with a little depth to it. The 12 foot sea king I have now is a very shallow boat and I can't vision a useful/stable deck on this type of boat. Thanks in advance to the reply's! Looking forward to this project and conversing with the board here.

hey there, welcome to the site.

with a decked out boat, width = stability, so go as wide as your budget and the size of the waters where you are going to take it will let you. that will make much more of a difference than jon vs mod-v etc.

Being a jersey guy myself Im a shallow water guy. I don't plan on using it on big water so I think a flat bottom will be fine.
Just concerned with stability. A 16 seems like it would be wide enough after reading one of the "sticky" threads here and learning about the calculations for a boat safe to deck.
