Hi i have a tracker 1232 rated for a 6 hp outboard so i start shopping around and notice there's not much in weight difference lets say between the 6 - 9.9 hp models. So im considering purchasing a 9.9 long-shaft and instead of mounting it directly to the transom im gonna put it on a mini jacker plate?

Do you think id be fine with this set up?

thanks.

You will get better performance from a short shaft. The boat will handle the weight and power ok but you'll have to be careful when making sharp turns at speed. Example: When turning left we all know that the left side gunnel will dip close to the water. With a more powerful motor it will amplify this and can cause a swamping of the boat. Since the motor is turned right the excess power will cause the boat lean more drastically in the direction of the turn. Bottom line is if you are a responsible boater you will be ok.
