This is my first tin boat, got it from a friend in a trade for laying some tile. Knew the transom was gonna need some attention but the more I tear out I begin to wonder is the boat worth the time and materials it will take to get her back on the water. Don't know much about aluminum boats and I'm looking for advice. Is the hull worth a rebuild, if so, what is the best strategy to get the transom back in order.

I have the time...really like the layout. Not sure what to do about the corrosion on the transom. It's corroded all the way through the metal in several spots. Not sure if the entire transom skin needs to be replaced. Motor went on another boat he had long before I inquired about the boat.

I would have a tig welder look at it, it may need some new plate. I found a guy on craigslist who welds medical equipment all day and does cash jobs in his garage and doesn't mind if I hang around while he does it.

Got some work done today, removed bow deck framing, fuel tank, and all but one section of foam. Planning to clean the inside and leak test, then to the welder to fix the transom and some of the braces that are corroded.

Did you get the title to the boat? Before you spend any more time and money you need to become the legal owner. Other wise all your effort might be a total waste.
