I am thinking of buying a trolling motor for my 1436 lowe jon boat with a 15 hp. I will have 2 people onboard. I am set on a bow mount and am thinking about getting a 45 pd thrust minnkota edge. Would that be enough power? what are your guys thoughts?

I have an older bow mount foot controlled 30lb Motorguide & it moves my 14'Jon around just fine with me & my son in it. I thought about getting a 45lb or bigger but a friend at work had this one & let me try it out before I bought it from him. It works great & on high speed it is moving quite fast. And only paying $20 wasn't bad to say the least.

I've got an older model 40# Minnkota All Terrain on a 1538 and if you happen to set it up to 5 and have it pointing to one side or the other when you step on that pedal, you will most likely set it back down to 3-4 after you climb back in the boat and dry off a little. It's more than enough power for lake use. I haven't tried it in any situations where I was fighting a current though.

:LOL2: I know exactly what you mean, but not from experience. I have done this & almost fell out of my seat. If I was standing I probably would have fell. I know when I am heading across lake back to ramp when I push down on to steer left I lift on power sometimes & it really upsets the boat. I am sure a 45lb motor would be more of a jolt.
