Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and to Jon boats a o cut me some slack. I'm thinking of buy a 14' Lowe aluminum Jon boat to fish on the reefs here on Oahu, HI. I am thinking of ways to modify the boat with keeping it light as possible. My question is why do people add flooring to the boat? Is the floor weak to walk on? If adding a floor is recommended then is the closed cell foam insulation a good way to add a floor? Any response would be appreciated. Mahalo & Aloha

I duck hunt out of my jon boat, I have the floor so I don't trip on a rib with a loaded shotgun.

It just adds a level of finish to the boat as well as keeping the ribs from becoming a trip hazzard. I put my floor in to keep it quieter when duck hunting and fishing

Something lightweight and will allow for drainage is sheets of perforated aluminum you cut to size.

Same here. Added a floor to eliminate tripping/stepping on ribs. Also leveled out the area where it is slanted upward toward the bow.

The other thing it does is adds weight low in the boat which adds to the stability. It was a noticeable improvement after I added the 5/8" plywood in my old 1436.
