Hey guys/gals I am just to add a second seat to my boat and bought a swivel pedestal Mount for it.
The question is can the pedestal be shortened up if the center section is too tall?
By that I mean can the swivel and seat lock on the top be easily removed?

I would prefer not to cut out the center of the tubing and put it in a sleeve if I can.

How tall is the pedestal and how much do you want to cut off?
I'm looking at using 6" pedestals mounted to my benches

They look similiar to some Springfield bases I have. If so, the cylinder post is swaged into the base and there is a plastic cap on top of the post. The seat base has another plastic part that rides ontop of the post plug. Looks like you have to drive the plastic plug out of the post from the bottom and then cut the post shorter. Getting it cut perfectly perpendicular will be a challenge. If it is not, the plastic plug will break when the seat is installed and has weight on it. The attached base will make it some more "fun". A large tubing cutter would probably work, but will need to remove the compession ring caused by the cutter to get the plug back in. Maybe some other members have some ideas about cutting a nice perpendicular cylinder. Do a practice cut at less than you need first. You always learn something on the 1st one. ;)

PS: If it is not a Springfield or of similar design, post some pictures, like these, so we can help further.
