    60's Sportsman runabout

That is a sweet looking little boat. What a great project...I really like your plans for the "cockpits" and the mahogany trim work. Best of luck in getting it together!

    Made In Korea?

Doesn't worry me that they are made in Korea. Ihe overall design of the reel is the important part. Abu is in control of the design of the stampings, dies, etc. that actually make the reel, and Korean workmanship is on a par with the Japanese. The U.S. has given away our manufacturing...

Project Overkill (front deck waterproofed 8-15)

Glad you are posting again...I am really looking forward to see how your boat turns out. This "Arctic Blast", as they keep calling it here, has put a lot of projects behind, I'm sure.

    Duracraft finished

That Hydroturf looks great...still looking for a boat, but that will go in first thing.

    Closed Bow

Looks to me like the trailer is just too small for the boat. Great looking boat, by the way. I vote for not messing with the bow cap. Think of all the out-of-the-way storage you have there, not to mention the spray protection.

    cherrywood pole

In my opinion, you can't beat Cherrywoods and Lightnin' Rods for the money. Great rods.

My first taste of a higher-end reel

Be careful..once you start going with high-end equipment, it becomes an obsession. Soon what you have invested in fishing gear will pass what is in your 401k. It has happened to me, and probably a few others here. Sure is fun, though. When I get too old to fish, I will put it all on eBay and...

    Anyone using this?

I can't stand the memory and stiffness of flouro. The only thing I use Flouro for is as a leader on braid for worm fishing. The only lines I use now are Sufix mono and braid on my baitcasting and spinning reels.

    Berkley AMP Series Rods?

I don't care for the flashiness of the new Lightning Rod series, but I do like the older ones. Also I like the Cherrywood series. I don't find them all that "spongy"...especially in the MH weight. I'll put a Revo or Chronarch Mg on a Lightning Rod and bank fish with that combo any day. If you...

    newbie alert!

Ok...should have read page 2 before posting....duh. I agree with the tips above, but I think you might be asking for something more specific. OK...you said you had the rod and reel. This would be my setup if I was in your shoes...Abu-Garcia Cardinal spinning reel, Berkley Trilene 8 pound...

    Fat Old Men

I got a chance to tour the Alumnacraft factory in Ark., and was really impressed with the facility. I was thinking about a 1542, which they have a few of at Academy (a regional sporting goods store). It is a flat bottom, rather than a semivee. I am 285#, and this boat seems to have the capacity...

    16ft Jon? 200.00?

Wish I could find one in that shape for that price. Here in Texas, we have to have a title for both the boat and motor, plus registration for the trailer. Its a real headache if any paperwork is missing.

    Line to Line Knot..

Tying knots is like anything else...if you are having trouble tying a certain knot, ya gotta practice until you can do it blindfolded. That is the only thing that works for me as I was not blessed with a great deal of manual dexterity. Just use those butt ends of line that always seem to be left...

    Leader with Braid?

The only thing I use flouro for is as a leader for braid when fishing plastic worms or crankbaits, because it sinks and is invisible to the fish.

    Berkley Gulp Alive

All I know is that the salt-water version is a go-to bait on the Texas coast. I have tried the maggots and worms for bream and have not had much luck with them over nightcrawlers and other natural baits.

    how to rig spinner bait?

I think spinnerbaits are the most versatile baits you can use. You can burn them on the surface, fish them slowly on the bottom, count them down and fish the middle of the water column, add traliers, fish them in timber and weeds with little chance of hanging up...just make sure they run true...

starting fresh on tackle, where would YOU start?

Spinnerbaits, plastic worms, worm hooks, bullet weights, rattletraps for bass...egg weights, swivels, dip bait and dip bait hooks for catfish, plus anything else you can cram into the new tackle box...lol.

    Braids vs Mono

Braid is great for many applications, but if you need any kind of stretch in your line, or need your line to float (working topwaters, etc.) use mono. It has served us well for a long time, is much improved over the years, and is cheap. Mono still has a place, just depends what kind of...

    Spinning rod & reel question

I used to use spinning gear only, but got back into baitcasters and the tackle monkey jumped on me big time. Whole new set of toys. Same thing happened when I took up fly fishing. I have to be very stern with myself to keep from carrying more than half a dozen rods with me every time I go out.

    baitcasting frustration

I know exactly how you feel. I picked up a baitcast reel again about 5 years ago after 30 years of using spinning gear only. The words that came out of my mouth are unprintable in a family forum, I have to tell you. And it still happens from time to time, but I have learned patience and always...
