The glue will stick like a mother to that wood, be sure to slip a piece of plastic like plastic drop cloth painters use to protect the floor and furniture from drippings, the glue will not stick to the HPDE plastic very well and should just peel right off.

In fact anywhere you think the glue will come in contact with the wood I would isolate the wood with a sheet of plastic. A garbage bag will also work.

Going to hit the holes with some marine tex this afternoon

Been a whole since last post.. I have filled all the holes in the rear of boat and in seems with marine tex... Stuff seems pretty legit hardens up real nice. Hopefully it will hold.

Next I want to hit all the inside seems with either gluvit or coat it... Anyone have any preferences? I have read that either product only lasts like 2-3 years.. Is this true even on the inside seems of the boat?

Hello everyone I'm getting closer! This is the marine tex after being sanded down. I putted up the holes with it. It seems pretty solid. I'm going to water test it this weekend and mark up the leaks.

Should I put anything over the marine tex to further help it bond?

Also what would you guys use to prime the spots I have ground down and filled?

Thanks

Hey all I know it's been a bit since I have posted. I am however making some serious headway! I'm currently prepping for paint and will post more pictures real soon.

In the mean time I have a question in regards to a hairline fracture I found in the nose of the boat when I was stripping the paint to apply gflex to some leaky rivets. I drilled holes top and bottom of the crack and filled it in with gflex. After that cured I took some marine tex and fiberglass tape and puttied over the area to give it a little extra assurance. Should I do another coat of the marine tex? Or should I fiberglass and gflex over this??

Aluminum and fiberglass don't flex the same so the fiberglass will in time pull loose.

Ok that's fair, I'm just trying to figure the best way aside from welding.. Currently All signs point to marine tex.

First, how did the crack happen? Is it from stress or from striking something? If it is from stress then it should be welded because the stressing will just re-crack whatever you put there. If it is from damage due to striking something then you could easily get away with JB Weld, you will need to grind it down and clean it up real good, drilling the two ends of the crack is okay but not necessary for that type of damage. They paint it with a good aluminum primer. Do not grind it until the metal is gone, just enough to lay a thin layer on and into the crack.

Surf man thanks for the the reply! I can only assume the PO struck something with it because when I did a water test a few rivets down from this area were also loosened and in need of some gflex. Plus it is not on a seem or anything.

I cleaned the surface real good. Sanded it out. Filled the crack with gflex. Then applied a layer of fiberglass tape with marine tex that you see in the picture. It's all cured and seems real sturdy. I was going to hit it with one more coat to smooth it out and call it a day.
However a friend mentioned using fiberglass resin over this, or more gflex.. I wast sure so here I am..

I have never put fiberglass over aluminum so I can't help you here, it may work, what type of resin did you use or did you just put the glass in the g-flex?

I put a layer of gflex over the crack.. Then a thin layer of marine tex over that with the fiberglass tape in it to hold rigidity..

Hey guys I have filled my boat with the lowes blue rigid foam. It seems like it will do the trick real nice. It's good and structurally sound.
I would however like to fill In some smaller areas with some sort of maybe spray in foam... Anyone have any incite?
