Decided to take advantage of the weather while I can...ended up going on a solo run...as I was loading up my Jeep my dog jumped into the back...He's never gone with me so what the hell...

I went to a local lake:

35 acres

Majority 3-12 feet...deepest area is 20-25 feet.

Surface water temp: a balmy 68 degrees.

Air temp: 74 degrees.

Wind: 10-15 mph

Don't know how many of you guys have fished with a dog but it was awkward at times...kind of reminded me of fishing with the kids when they first started...you don't fish much.

Ended up getting a few on Fin-S in shad close to the shore...gave that up due to the abundance of floating leaves.

Went in the area of the launch and connected with 3 more on a Black/Blue jig and rattle in 9 feet around sunken Christmas trees and old swim platform.

Spent about 2.5 hours on the water...don't know if the dog will go again...but he may.

A few pictures of said dog and a pretty bad blackberry pic of one of the fish.

Cool Looking Dog! What kind is he?

Sometimes kinda wish I had a dog to take fishing with me on occasion. :-k

Great report...Nice catchin too =D> =D> =D> ...My 2 hounds ride in the back of my truck most every time i move the thing...Took them both fishing with me once and couldn't keep em outta the water like having 2 children in the boat :LOL2: :LOL2: ... So I won't be doing that no more....JIGGY

Nice lab and fish.I don't dare bring any of my dogs with me.
They'll probably swim ashore and start chasing rabbits, ruining my fishing day.

I have a 10yr old Black lab that loves riding on the bow. If I leave the dock with out her, she will either swim after me , or cry until I return.

I had a Yellow Lab when I lived on Midway Lake in NE. I'd be fishing in a cove away and across the lake from my cabin. A half hour later, here Ben would come swimming around the corner. He'd probably have to swim at least a half mile to get to me. Pretty good for a 110 lb Lab. I sure miss that dog. I haven't owned one since.

great story and yes I have taken my dogs fishing with me. The first half dozen or so times its an adventure. I stick to one story about the black lab earlier this summer. 90 pound dog in a 14' boat. I pull up to the boat ramp staging area and let the dog out. I prep the boat he plays in teh water. Tiome to launch, I put him in the boat and launch it into the lake. I put my anchor on shore and let the wind push the boat away from the ramp. I go park the truck and while Im walking back I hear people laughing and look up to see the dog running at me soaking wet. Great. Finally get him back in the boat and we head out. Pull up close to my fishing area in the middle of the lake and cut the engine to coast into position. While Im getting my tackle and pole ready I hear a big splash and think to myself, alright that soulds like a keeper. Look up to talk to the dog and noticed hes gone. Doesn't take long to scan the boat and realize the splash was him. That damn dog did three laps around the boat before he decided it was to far to swim for shore, and then he did another lap looking for the best way into the boat. Fortunately my boat is rather small, he lunged and hooked his front legs over the gunall and I dragged all 90 pounds of him into the boat. Needless to say I had to move from that spot. He curled up next to my feet the rest of the day.

I used to take mine with us from time to time. She was a small dog (Lhasa Apso) and it got to the point when you said the words "fishing" or "boat" she knew exactly WHAT WAS UP.. she would RUN to the boat! LOL As we rode out to and from our spot...She would stand on the front platform where the trolling motor is mounted and ACTED like she was 10 ft tall... when we docked she would REFUSE to get out unless everyone was out......she LOVED IT!! never an awkward moment with her on board, it was always a blast!

Remember!!..... it is a good idea when YOU have a life jacket, so should your pet!

Very cool report. My German Shepard loves to go fishing on the boat - One night while dragging eels for stripers in the Delaware Bay we got hit with a decent size wave - I hear a 'sposh" and look aroudn for teh dog - no dog - look over the side and there she is swimming next to the boat.

Dragging a 110 lb wet dog up the 5 foot side of my boat was brutal - after that I got her one of these

She loves it as it provides a built in cushion while the boat is moving

That is WAY COOL!! and most people think that ALL dogs can swim, but unfortunately not all breeds have that built in survival skill.... what you bought your pup is perfect!... like you said, even if it may not be used it cushions the ride and that makes it more comfy for the little ones.... They can get bounced around more than one may think!! THANK you for providing that pic! .... I would have never thought of showing a pic DUH..... lol.. #-o

They probably sell them at lots of places, but I know REI carries them in several sizes.

My dog loves to swim - but she fell off the boat about 18 miles from the nearest land in heavy tides - The only place she was gonna swim to was Ireland

I thought you said she was a GERMAN shepherd, not an IRISH setter. #-o
