I have a 1649 mod v with 70hp just had beavertail flotation pods welded on to it ? Added 2 cans of closed cell foam to each pod !! When 2 people stand on back of boat pods submerge under water about 1/4 " over pods is this anything to worry about ?

Why'd you add foam to the pods?

If the question is whether or not water over the pods will hurt them, no it wont hurt them at all. They are supposed to be seal welded and pressure tested.

Paper work says u can add closed cell foam to pods if want just precaution if plug would come out or hole get poked in 1 then won't fill up with water !!!

Okay, I can see why you did it. As someone who also fabricates and sells pods, I completely disagree with that recommendation, but if they put it there, more power to them.

The long and short of it that any of the pod that is above water isn't doing you any good - only adding extra weight. The pod has to be displacing water to provide flotation. Any water above the top of the pod means that if the pod was slightly taller, it would provide a bit more flotation. That said, if yours is within a quarter of an inch of the surface of the water, yours is set up dang near perfect. You've got virtually all the flotation that can fit vertically, without wasting a bunch of space above the water.

Industry standard for pressure testing a tank of that sort is at around 2 psi, which is equivalent to about 4 1/2 feet deep. So, you'd have to sink it that far just to get it down to it's tested depth, and just because a tank is only tested to 2 psi doesn't mean it will fail at 3.

In other words, you've got nothing to worry about.
