The 14' jon I modded just sold. I used 3/4" DryPly plywood for decking, and the 6'X8' rolls of Lowes carpet, and I/O carpet adhesive.

When the guy came to look at the boat, I pulled back the (canvas) tarp & there were a few spots of orangish/copper colored mold on the carpet. You could rub it off with a finger & it was like powder. Never seen anything like it before.

So if anyone uses the same combo or one or the other of these products, I'd be interested if you have a similar "problem"....if it's even a problem.

Thanks!

I think it is more of an issue with the fact that there is carpet in there covered with a heavy cover, rather than one particular brand of carpet/plywood/glue. Did you get the boat sold?

How well was the tarp covering? That sounds just like the mold on some of my firewood I'll cover up in the fall.

You could have had it sealed so well that it was like a green house, and not drying out?

Then again you might tell me that the tarp was a good one that was suppose to breath, then I'd say "I wonder if the tarp was working", then you'd say shut up FB

so anyway did ya get the money ya wanted for the boat?

No problem here. I used the Lowe's marine grade carpet, and the Henry 663 glue (from Lowe's also). Had the boat outside (covered) this past winter and no problems with mold or anything.

I don't know, I've owned several carpeted boats, nearly all of them sat outside, covered of course....never seen this before. It was a canvas tarp, not one of those blue plastic ones.....beats me??

I initially had the boat listed at $950, when dad & I took it out, after about 2 minutes & found the TM battery (I was including with the boat) was junk. So I dropped the price to $900. I was getting worried since there are so many local boats for sale, cheap, that I might have made a bad decision in buying it to mod & resell, hopefully at a small profit.

I changed my Craigslist ad to include "OBO, but low-ballers will be ignored". Guy emailed me same day, told him I'd take $850, he offered me $800....so we split it at $825. Less than I wanted, but was glad to get my $$ back out of it, and did make a couple bucks.

Plus he was a nice guy, said he had a couple boys (5 years old) who were just getting into fishing....so it went to a good home
