Hello all, just got back from my 2nd combat deployment and decided to buy a jet sled. Well I figured out that sleds were out of my price range and decided to just try my luck building a budget sled. Picked up a brand new Aluma. 1444, a Craigslist trailer, and added some personal touches while waiting for a used jet to snag up. Finaly found a "77" 35 Horse Evinrude jet for 500$ and made the long drive to oregon to pick it up. After three months of having a boat and no motor I finaly got to scoot up and down my favorite river yesterday searching for some kings.
I do have some questions on moding it though. I found out that fishing from this thing gets quite cramped when I throw my favorite fishing bud (wife) in the boat. I was kicking the idea of removing the center bench and live well, pulling the deck that I made and removing the factory deck in the front and putting in a custom deck with a fuel cell and battery in the spot where the factory one went. If I pull the center bench will this affect the stability, IE rigidness of the boat? Id just cut the bench at the bend near the rivet spots for now and pull the bench and use it as is until I can get some matterials to flatten the floor out. Id like to keep weight down so Im thinking of staying away from wood for the floor. Well any wase Id like to hear some input and advice on my project if posible.
