I have an opportunity to pick this up - LINK for around $200. I think it is a 1971 model with electric start. It will come with wiring and a tank.

Few Questions:

1. Should I buy this at this price?
2. Will it work on my 15' V-Hull - LINK
3. Anyone know anything about this motor.

I understand this should probably go in the Outboards section but I wanted to know if it would work on my boat or if it too much motor?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

That will be a lot of motor for what appears to be a fairly small boat. I'm thinking something more along the lines of a 25 was all it was ever rated for, if it was even rated for that.

You've added some weight with the decking and carpet but if the transom will hold the 40 without taking on water in the back, it ought to scoot...

ETA: I don't know that I would pay $200 for an outboard that appears to have been laying in the weeds for quite some time, though.

$200 if it runs, pees good and with controls is not bad. You should have motor rating plate some where on boat; normally on transom. If not check this out. (https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12144)

Be very careful with that calculator. It calculates my boat as being rated for 40+ hp more than the placcard.

That motor looks awfully rough. If it sat outside uncoverd for two years its likely to need lots of work. It also seems way to big for your boat. I would look for a 15hp-25hp at most. Also make sure you get the right shaft length your boat should require a 15" shaft.
