I found this on Hydrilla's thread about his 1436 project https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=10430&start=30. Rat was talking about damage to the bottom of the boat and the (potential) affect on performance. I am by no means electro-savvy. I installed my transducer according to the instructions provided and have never been sure it is working properly. At slow or no speed it's fine but at plane it reads all over the map - it will read 20' one second and 600' the next. This sentence from Rat caught my eye and I wonder if those of you who know about such things could enlighten those of us who don't...

This small area will cause aeration of the water leaving the hull as well; so I would not mount a sonar transducer near it or you will get bubbles across the beam leading to crappy readings while on plane. It's hard enough to find clear water on a riveted hull anyway.

you need the transducer in smooth water all the time, so it needs to be behind a good smooth section of hull, not behind a rib, or a rivet...
