That boat looks awesome. It has soooo much character! With the nice high sides, you could build a nice casting deck up front and maybe put a flat floor in the rest if it for an open layout with lots of room.

Do you mean boxes like the one behind the rear seat in this boat? If so, yes they are designed to add additional flotation and also add transom support. But that doesn't mean you can't remove them. It all depends on your boat, how you plan to use and power it, and how comfortable you are...

Pics would help for sure! But generally speaking, you only want to put bolts through holes that are just the right size. If the holes are larger or wonky shaped, then its a good idea to fix it somehow and drill a new, properly sized hole. Ideally you would get welded, but you can get creative...

If its just an open aluminum boat with no wood, electronics, carpet etc etc .... then you can add a plug and leave it out in the elements with no worries. The paint might fade, but it won't hurt anything else.
