Hi, cool site, I am new I just picked up a small 10ft lund jon boat, to fish the local small lakes& ponds. I have a 55lb thrust electric
that beats rowing but,I was wondering how big of an outboard I could get away with? I was considering a 3-1/2
would rather go with a 5hp if it wouldn't be be too much. it is rated for 3hp.
Thank you, Rich

Thanks for the responses, I can legally do 55-65 on the interstate, but every once in a while that old pick up
truck hits 70. I was wondering if the same logic applys with the 3hp warning. for the most part fish & game are pretty decent
& not so petty up here in the live free or die state of nh
Semper fi, Rich

a 10 hp (9.9) would do great on a 10 footer! Actually, any hp up to around 10 would work nicely. Used to run a 12' Jon as a duck boat in Lake Okeechobee, in Florida. Two people, decoys, a dog, Palmetto fronds to hide the boat, shotguns, small cooler, 6-gallon can and a short shaft 35hp Johnson on the back. It flew!
