G3 1036 Jon Boat with Honda 5hp outboard

Since retiring more time is spent RV-ing and one of the things I miss most is the G3 1448PF I used to have. But I could not tow the RV and the the boat at the same time so the boat was sold. Just a couple weeks ago boating fever hit me and I went outside with a tape measure and took some measurements on the pickup and decided to purchase a 10ft Jon boat because it will transport fine while towing the RV.
It’s not much of a boat but it’s able to come along in the back of the pickup.
Shopped around for an outboard and decided to go for the 5hp Honda.

A trailer is used when where back home.

The boat has a top speed of 17mph with myself in it. Load placement is important and must be careful moving around on the boat.
Overall, it’s ok. At least we’re able to get out.

I think 17 MPH is pretty good with that 5 HP.

I was looking at some class B motorhomes online thinking how fun it would be to tow the boat around the state. Too much time on my hands because of the stay-in-place order I guess. But still, it would be fun.

Each state and province has its own laws regarding tandem towing sometimes called triple towing. Here in Ontario, I tow my 16' tin behind a 25' camper. Definitely want to be sure where your going because there's no backing up! My boat is light and has a wheel on the jack. So at a campground, I can drop it and push it out of the way.
I'm impressed with the 17mph your getting! Be able to get that little boat into spots that others can't get to.

Also,get into some tight back waters seldom fished. Nice rig!

I don’t know if triple towing is allowed in the states. I would not want to try it. I like getting out of a place after I got into it.

I was surprised that it went 17mph. Overall I’m pleased with it. Smallest boat I’ve ever had. I’m seeing it has some advantages.

Thanks Buzzbait, I’ve been in places yesterday where I’ve never been before. It was a very peaceful time.

Since I had to do something I decided to install an adjustable pedestal seat on the 1036.
Here is how it was done:

First I purchased 1/2 × 3/8 6061-T6 aluminum stock and cut 4 lengths 20 inches long.
Next I drilled16 holes than tapped then for 10/32 stainless machine screws. Once the aluminum stock was completed they were slid under the floor braces.

Next I installed rubber weather stripping on the braces.

The next step was making the platform and mount it.
It was made out of 3/4" 10 ply birch marine grade plywood.

Tomorrow I'll be shopping for the seat.

My idea when designing it was to keep it light as possible yet have the platform strengthen the floor braces. Another thing was I wanted to avoid drilling the braces so the boats warranty might not be compromised.

Its finished, the boat behaved very well in some chop and wind. It planes at 10 mph, it does not pound hard in the water and the bow does not raise out of the water to much when starting off. It tracks very well for a 10 footer.
Checked the speed again with Google maps and I still get 17mph max. Need to get the tach out and see what the engine is turning at top speed. I feel the seat is in the right location for one person.

Thank you LDUBS, The next project might be a bow mount for an Anchormate and Anchormate ll combo. I’ve been boating with an 8 lbs mushroom anchor and 5 pounds of additional weight on the bow bench so I know mounting the setup in the front will be fine. This will most likely be it for accessories. Want to keep additional weight to a minimum.

Here is a picture of part of the mount for the Anchormate setup.
It's not completed. It's just rough cut. Total weight of all the parts is 7lbs. Quitting for the night. Back to work on it tomorrow.

The Anchor mount is almost completed.
I'm waiting for a pulley that aligns the rope on the winch properly. The mount is already drilled and tapped to mount the pulley.
